Anguillas crystal-clear Caribbean waters are known for hosting some of the regions most exciting sailing events. Each year, the Anguilla Regatta welcomes crews and fans from around the world. Thanks to its steady trade winds and calm coastal waters, the island offers great conditions for racing and recreational sailing alike. The 2024 release in the EC8 Series from Scottsdale Mint pays tribute to Anguillas sailing culture with a vibrant, regatta-themed design. Provident Metals now offers the 2024 Colorized EC8 Anguilla Regatta 1 oz Silver Coin.
Highlights:
Each 2024 Colorized EC8 Anguilla Regatta 1 oz Silver Coin comes in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and is packaged in a themed display box. This coin is part of the EC8 Series, which is issued by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and represents eight nations across the region.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2024 Colorized EC8 Anguilla Regatta Silver Coin is the official seal of the ECCB. Anguilla, a small British Overseas Territory in the northeastern Caribbean, is known for its white sand beaches and boutique resorts. Although it covers only 35 square miles, the island is home to around 15,000 people who have built a tourism economy that remains closely tied to Caribbean customs and culture. Inscriptions read EASTERN CARIBBEAN CENTRAL BANK, ECCB, 1 OZ .999 SILVER, and TWO DOLLARS.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2024 Colorized EC8 Regatta 1 oz Silver Coin shows a sailboat in full color cruising through Anguillas calm, blue waters. Modern regattas became more widespread in the mid-1900s, as newly independent islands embraced their seafaring heritage and hosted local festivals centered around sailing. The inscriptions here read ANGUILLA and 2024.
History
Regattas in the Caribbean began as practical demonstrations of sailing skills. Over time, these races evolved into scheduled sporting events supported by colonial leaders and local elites, often aligned with holidays or commemorative dates.
