History
Cinco de Mayo honors the Mexican Army’s victory at the Battle of Puebla against the French Empire on May 5, 1862. Led by General Ignacio Zaragoza, the smaller Mexican force held off the French troops, offering a significant morale boost during the broader conflict. In the U.S., it has become a celebration of Mexican-American heritage and traditions.
