Each 2024 Congo Utahraptor 1 oz Silver Coin is packaged in a clear acrylic capsule. This coin marks the third design in the second installment of the Prehistoric Life series, following previous coins featuring the Triceratops and Suchomimus. All coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 2024 Congo Utahraptor Silver Coin is the official coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The design includes a leopards head front and center, resting above a stone slab, with a spear and elephant tusk on either side. The inscriptions include REPUBLIQUE DEMOCRATIQUE DU CONGO, 1 OZ AG 999.9, and 20 FRANCS.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2024 Utahraptor 1 oz Silver Coin features a lifelike depiction of the Utahraptor. While often imagined with scales, this raptor may have had feather-like structures that helped regulate body temperature or served for communication among its kind. The inscriptions read PREHISTORIC LIFE, UTAHRAPTOR, 131-126 MIO YEARS BC, 2024, and the dates for the Triassic, Jurassic, and Creataceous periods.

History

Recent fossil discoveries suggest Utahraptors may have worked together when hunting, potentially forming groups to take down large plant-eaters like iguanodonts. This theory is supported by a fossil site known as the Utahraptor megablock, where scientists uncovered the remains of at least six Utahraptors of varying ages. These remains may belong to a single group that lived and died together, offering insights into the social lives of these ancient predators.
