The 2024 Mexican Libertad 1 Kilo Silver Coins come in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. These Kilo Libertads are the largest coins in the Silver Libertad collection, introduced later than the smaller coins, in 2008. Each coin ships inside a plastic capsule for added protection.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 2024 Mexican Libertad Silver Coin is the national symbol of Mexicothe Mexican coat of arms. At the center, youll find a golden eagle battling a snake while perched on a prickly pear cactus. This modern coat of arms is surrounded by ten historic versions, some of which date back to the early 16th century. The inscription reads ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 2024 Libertad 1 Kilo Silver Coin features the iconic Winged Victory, also known as the Angel of Independence. She stands atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column, her right hand raised with a laurel wreath and her left hand gripping broken chains that symbolize freedom and independence. Inscriptions here read 1 KG, PLATA PURA, 2024 LEY .999, and the mint mark.

History

The Silver Libertad program began in 1982, with the Mexican Mint gradually adding more sizes to the series. It took 26 years before the 1 Kilo coin was first issued in 2008. After being minted every year from 2008 to 2012, production briefly paused in 2013 and 2014 but resumed in 2015. The highest recorded mintage of Kilo Libertads was in 2011, with 6,000 coins minted.
