In 2024, the Tower Mint introduces a new bullion coin series that connects the history of one of Britains overseas territories with one of its most famous ships. The new Pitcairn Islands Bounty collection recalls one of the most well-known mutinies on the high seas. Right now, 2024 Pitcairn Islands Bounty 1 oz Silver Coins are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The 2024 Pitcairn Islands Bounty 1 oz Silver Coins offered here are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Each coin is packaged individually in plastic flips for safe delivery. The release of the HMS Bounty coin marks the first in this impressive new collection from Tower Mint.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2024 Pitcairn Islands Bounty Silver Coins showcases King Charles III. This first-generation effigy, designed by Glyn Davies, presents a left-profile relief of Charles III without a crown. Switching to a left-profile relief is traditional from one monarch to the next, with male monarchs typically depicted without a crown. Inscriptions include CHARLES III, PITCAIRN ISLANDS, ONE DOLLAR, and 2024.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2024 Bounty 1 oz Silver Coins features a depiction of the HMS Bounty. Initially a merchant vessel named Bethia, the British Royal Navy acquired and refitted her in 1787 for a mission to collect breadfruit plants from Tahiti and transport them to the West Indies. Inscriptions read HMS BOUNTY, .999 AG, and 1 OZ.
History
The mutiny on the Bounty occurred in 1789 and the ship was purposely sunk by the mutineers off Pitcairn Island in 1790. In 1957, Luis Marden, an American photographer and explorer, discovered the remains of the Bounty in Bounty Bay off Pitcairn Island. The find included an anchor, a ship’s bell, and various other artifacts, providing tangible evidence of the ship’s final resting place.
