On October 15, 1794, the United States Mint released its first-ever dollar coin, the Flowing Hair Dollar. Featuring a design by the Mints first Chief Engraver, Robert Scot, the coin showed Liberty in right-profile relief with long, flowing hair. To celebrate the 230th anniversary of this milestone, the U.S. Mint has issued a 2024 commemorative gold release. Obverse
The obverse of the 2024 Proof American 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair Gold Coin features a right-profile portrait of Lady Liberty, designed by Robert Scot. This portrait is renowned for its depiction of Liberty with long, flowing hair, reflecting the nation’s ideals of freedom and liberty. Robert Scot, who was the first Chief Engraver at the U.S. Mint, designed the original Flowing Hair Dollar and many other early U.S. coins. Inscriptions read LIBERTY and 2024.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2024 Proof 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair 1 oz Gold Coin is the classic heraldic eagle design. The eagle, perched on a wreath, is inscribed with the phrase “HUNDRED CENTS ONE DOLLAR OR UNIT” along the edge. The additional inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
History
The Flowing Hair Dollar, minted in 1794 and 1795, was the first official silver dollar issued by the United States. Its obverse design, featuring Liberty with flowing hair, symbolized the ideals of freedom and independence that defined the new nation. The reverse of the coin displayed an eagle surrounded by a wreath, a design that would become an enduring symbol of American strength. Only around 160,000 Flowing Hair Dollars were minted, but the coin holds a special place in U.S. numismatic history.

For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
