On October 15, 1794, the United States Mint introduced the first official dollar coin in American history, known as the Flowing Hair Dollar. The coins design was created by Robert Scot, the Mints first Chief Engraver, and features a right-profile portrait of Liberty with flowing hair. In 2024, the US Mint celebrates the 230th anniversary of this iconic dollar coin with a special gold release. Obverse
The obverse of the 2024 Proof American 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair Gold Coin features a right-profile portrait of Liberty, designed by Robert Scot. The long, flowing hair of Liberty is the focal point of the design. Scot, who was the US Mints first Chief Engraver, created the original Flowing Hair Dollar as well as many other early American coin designs. Inscriptions on this side include LIBERTY and 2024.
Reverse
On the reverse of the coin, the 2024 Proof 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair 1 oz Gold Coin displays the original heraldic eagle design, with the eagle perched on a wreath. The edge lettering reads HUNDRED CENTS ONE DOLLAR OR UNIT, completing the historic design. Inscriptions here read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
History
The Flowing Hair Dollar, minted in 1794 and 1795, is the first official silver dollar issued by the US federal government. The coin’s obverse shows Liberty with flowing hair, symbolizing freedom, while the reverse displays an eagle surrounded by a wreath. Only around 160,000 of these coins were produced, but the Flowing Hair Dollar remains an important symbol of Americas early monetary history.

For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
