The Mohawk, known as Kanienkehka, referred to the area along the Hudson River in New York as Serachtague, which we now call Saratoga. This historic site is preserved by the Saratoga National Historical Park in Stillwater, New York, marking a significant American victory during the Revolutionary War. The Native America the Beautiful Series has chosen to honor the Mohawk in its latest release. Provident Metals proudly offers the 2024 Proof Native America the Beautiful New York 1 oz Silver Coins.
Highlights:
Each 2024 Proof Native America the Beautiful New York 1 oz Silver Coin comes in a secure capsule and a themed presentation box, complete with a Certificate of Authenticity. These coins showcase frosted designs with mirror-like background fields, highlighting their proof quality.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2024 Proof NATB New York Silver Coin features two members of the Mohawk tribe, with one passing a bow to the other. This design is a nod to the US Mint’s ATB series, which depicted General Horatio Gates receiving the sword of British General John Burgoyne after the American victory at Saratoga. The inscriptions include SERACHTAGUE, NEW YORK, 2024, and MOHAWK.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2024 Proof New York 1 oz Silver Coin features a common motif used throughout the series: an American bald eagle head centered within an eight-pointed star, with arrowheads between each point of the star. Inscriptions here include NATIVE AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL, 1 OUNCE, ONE DOLLAR, 999 AG, and MESA GRANDE SOVEREIGN NATION.
History
The Mohawk played significant roles in colonial-era conflicts, including the French and Indian War and the American Revolution. Some Mohawk, led by Joseph Brant (Thayendanegea), allied with the British during the American Revolution, which led to many Mohawk relocating to Canada after the war.
