Obverse
The obverse of the 2024 Reverse Proof Mexican Libertad Silver Coin features the Mexican coat of arms, which includes 11 variations. The central emblem shows a golden eagle in relief fighting a serpent on a prickly pear cactus. The inscription reads ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.
Reverse
On the reverse, the 2024 Reverse Proof Libertad 1 oz Silver Coin depicts Winged Victory, a statue atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City. The distant peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl are visible in the background. The inscriptions here include 1 ONZA, PLATA PURA, 2024 LEY .999, and the mint mark.
History
The design of Mexican Libertads is inspired by the Centenario gold coin. While the Centenario was first minted in 1921, its popularity led to continued production in subsequent years, with coins dated 1921 being struck until 1947. After a brief hiatus, production resumed from 1949 to 1972. Despite bearing the 1921 date, coins minted in later years can often be distinguished by slight variations in design details and quality.
