Black Hawk, born Ma-ka-tai-me-she-kia-kiak in 1767, is remembered as one of the key Native American leaders of the early 19th century, known for resisting the push of American settlers into tribal lands. Following the positive response to the first Ultra High Relief Black Hawk Coin, the same imagery is now offered on an antique-finish piece. Today, 2025 Antique Sioux Nation Black Hawk 1 oz Silver Coins are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
All 2025 Antique Sioux Nation Black Hawk 1 oz Silver Coins come with protective capsules and a Certificate of Authenticity. The ultra-high-relief strike gives the artwork deeper height and shape, while the antique finish creates a soft, aged look that fits the theme of the coin.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2025 Antique Sioux Nation Black Hawk Silver Coins is a front-facing effigy of Black Hawk. The Black Hawk War of 1832, which carries his name, was the final major armed resistance to settlement east of the Mississippi River in the northern United States. Though the war ended in defeat and great loss for his band, Black Hawk later shared his life story in an autobiography published in 1833, helping many Americans hear an indigenous voice directly. The inscriptions include INDIAN SOVEREIGN NATION, .999 SILVER, 2025, ONE DOLLAR, and ONE TROY OUNCE.
Reverse
The reverse of 2025 Antique Black Hawk 1 oz Silver Coins depicts a North American Hawk in flight. For numerous Indigenous peoples across North America, hawks are viewed as animals with important spiritual meaning, respected as trusted messengers, protectors, and signs of alertness and purpose. Famous for outstanding vision and hunting skill, hawks are often connected to clear understanding, wider viewpoint, and the power to recognize truth at a distance, literally and metaphorically. The inscriptions read NORTH AMERICAN HAWK and OGLALA LAKOTA SIOUX NATION.
History
A member of the Thunder Clan of the Sauk nation, Black Hawk became a war chief who fought with the British during the War of 1812. He would not accept treaties that signed away Sauk lands in modern Illinois and Wisconsin, believing they did not represent the true will of his people. His lasting reputation comes from his determination to defend his communitys traditions and their right to their homeland.
