Each 2025 Australian 225th Anniversary of Australian Proclamation 1 oz Gold Coin is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and ships in a plastic flip for protection. The design on the reverse pays tribute to the Spanish coin design that played a key role in forming Australia’s early monetary system.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 2025 Australian 225th Anniversary of Australian Proclamation Gold Coin, King Charles III is shown in a left-facing portrait. This design by Dan Thorne is the first to feature the new monarch and presents him without a crown in a simple, dignified style. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, 1 OZ 9999 AU, and 100 DOLLARS.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2025 225th Anniversary of Australian Proclamation 1 oz Gold Coin displays the imagery from the Spanish Pillar Dollar. Known as the piece of eight, this coin circulated globally from the 1500s to the 1800s. It was struck in Spanish colonies with silver from mines in the Americas. The reverse artwork includes two prominent columns symbolizing the Pillars of Hercules, which appear just as they did on the original coin. The inscriptions read VTRAQUE VNUM, MO, and 2025. The Latin inscription stands for BOTH ARE ONE.

History

Before the proclamation, New South Wales faced significant issues with foreign currency circulating without clear values. Governor King addressed this problem by officially assigning values to commonly used coins, including those from Spain, India, the Netherlands, and Britain. This act laid the groundwork for the colonys first organized monetary framework.
