The kookaburra, often called “farmer’s friend,” is admired in Australia for its role in rural life, where it helps control snakes and other dangerous creatures. This connection has fostered respect for the bird, symbolizing both protection and the bond between Australians and their land. Since 1990, the Perth Mint has highlighted the kookaburras significance with its Silver Kookaburra Series. Right now, 2025 Australian Kookaburra 1 Kilo Silver Coins are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2025 Australian Kookaburra 1 Kilo Silver Coin is available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Coins are housed in protective plastic capsules to ensure their safety. This years release celebrates the 35th anniversary of the series and includes a privy mark with the original design from 1990. The mintage for this coin is unlimited, with production running until the end of 2025.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2025 Australian Kookaburra Silver Coin features a left-profile portrait of King Charles III. Designed by Dan Thorne, this effigy is the first used for King Charles III on Australian coinage and depicts him without a crown. The inscriptions read CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, and 30 DOLLARS.
Reverse
On the reverse side, the 2025 Kookaburra 1 Kilo Silver Coin highlights a new left-profile design of a kookaburra sitting on a branch. Additionally, a special privy mark celebrates the 1990 debut design of this beloved series. The inscriptions include 2025 1 KILO 9999 SILVER, KOOKABURRA, 35TH ANNIVERSARY, and the P mint mark.
History
The kookaburra is known for its expressive features, such as its dark eyes and the “smile” created by its beak structure. Its short, rounded wings are ideal for hunting, allowing it to perch and swoop down on prey, while its broad tail helps with balance during these precise movements.
