Obverse

The obverse of the 2025 Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coin displays the Great Pipe Organ, an iconic instrument located in the Golden Concert Hall, the main venue for the Musikverein. The current organ, installed in 2011, is the third to be placed in the hall, replacing a previous organ that had been operational since 1907. The inscriptions include REPUBLIK OSTERREICH, 1/2 UNZE GOLD 999.9, 2025, and 50 EURO.

Reverse

On the reverse, the 2025 Philharmonic 1/2 oz Gold Coin presents an array of musical instruments. A cello takes center stage, flanked by four violins in the foreground. The background features a French horn, bassoon, and harp, reflecting the diverse nature of orchestral music. Inscriptions here include WIENER PHILHARMONIKER.

History

These coins are inspired by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, a cherished national symbol. The orchestra has a rich history of adaptation while maintaining its traditions. Notably, it had a policy excluding women from permanent membership until it was reformed in 1997.
