The final release in The Royal Mints Myths and Legends Series features a character from one of the most well-known works of Old English literature. The epic poem Beowulf, written between the 8th and 11th centuries by an unknown author, is one of the greatest surviving pieces of Anglo-Saxon storytelling. Today, 2025 British Beowulf and the Dragon 1 oz Silver Coins are available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2025 British Beowulf and the Dragon 1 oz Silver Coin is available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. This coin is the third design in the Beowulf Series and serves as the final issue in the broader Myths and Legends Series. Coins are individually packaged in plastic flips, with multiples available in tubes of 25 or boxes of 500 coins.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2025 British Beowulf and the Dragon Silver Coin features a left-profile portrait of King Charles III. This official effigy, designed by Martin Jennings in 2022, is the first to depict Charles III on British coinage. The design shows the King without a crown. The inscriptions read CHARLES III, D.G. REX. F.D., and 2 POUNDS.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2025 Beowulf and the Dragon 1 oz Silver Coin, the legendary warrior is shown in battle with a dragon. In his later years, King Beowulf faces this fearsome creature after a stolen treasure awakens its fury. Though he is no longer in his prime, Beowulf refuses to retreat, determined to protect his people. The battle proves to be his greatest challenge yet, as the dragons fiery breath and venom make it a formidable foe. This moment represents not only a physical battle but also the final test of Beowulfs heroism and the close of his legendary journey. Inscriptions here read BEOWULF & THE DRAGON, 2025, and 1 OZ FINE SILVER 999.
History
The poem Beowulf, written in alliterative verse, tells the story of a heroic Geatish warrior. Beowulf embodies the values of bravery, strength, and loyalty. In his youth, he sails to Denmark to aid King Hrothgar, whose grand hall, Heorot, has been under siege by the monstrous creature Grendel.
