Obverse

The obverse of the 2025 British Britannia Platinum Coin features King Charles III. This left-profile portrait, created by Martin Jennings, marks the first official coinage image of Charles III and does not include a crown. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, D.G. REX. F.D., and 10 POUNDS.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2025 Britannia 1/10 oz Platinum Coin highlights Britannia standing against a stormy sea. Philip Nathans 1987 design for the gold Britannia introduced this interpretation, combining tradition with modern artistic elements. The reverse also includes enhanced security features such as motion texture waves in the background, a latent security image, micro-text surrounding Britannia, and tincture lines on the Union Jack within her shield. The inscriptions read BRITANNIA, 2025, 1/10 OZ, and 999.5 FINE PLATINUM.

History

Britannia was first depicted on British currency in 1672 during the reign of King Charles II, appearing on copper halfpennies and farthings. John Roettiers original design portrayed her seated on a rock, gazing over the sea while holding a shield and spear. Over time, Britannias image evolved, with additions such as an olive branch, changes to her helmet and shield, and modifications to her seated stance.
