Chinese dragons have been part of Chinese tradition for more than 7,000 years, tracing back to the Neolithic era. What started as simple totem symbols gradually became one of the most important figures in Chinese folklore and imperial history. Unlike the fearsome dragons of Western stories, Chinese dragons were seen as kind protectors who could bring rain and ensure bountiful harvests. In 2025, the Chinese Mint honors this iconic creature with the debut of a brand-new bullion series. Today, Provident Metals offers the 2025 Chinese Mint Dragon 1 oz Silver Coins online.
Highlights:
Each 2025 Chinese Mint Dragon 1 oz Silver Coin is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. These coins are placed in protective capsules for individual packaging. Larger quantities come in trays of 30 coins or Monster Boxes that hold 600 coins. This is the first release in the new Silver Dragon series from the Chinese Mint and the second-ever silver bullion series from China.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2025 Chinese Mint Dragon Silver Coin, youll see the Great Wall of China. While the Great Wall is now viewed as a single landmark, it began as a series of separate walls built by regional kingdoms as far back as the 7th century BCE. When Emperor Qin Shi Huang unified China in 221 BCE, he ordered these structures to be joined into one system to guard against northern threats. The inscriptions include the nation of issue and 2025.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2025 Dragon 1 oz Silver Coin displays a detailed image of a Chinese dragon. These dragons were present throughout Chinese culture, from artwork and writings to royal ceremonies. They symbolized strength, luck, wisdom, and the positive force of yang in Taoist philosophy. The inscriptions read 10, 31.104G, AG, and 999.
History
Some of the earliest dragon images found in China come from the Yangshao culture, dating from 5000 to 3000 BCE. These early designs showed dragons with snake-like bodies. Over time, new features like antlers, claws, and scales were added, especially during the Shang and Zhou dynasties. By the Han Dynasty, dragons had become a powerful imperial symbol, and the five-clawed dragon was used exclusively by the emperor.
