The Great Britain Gold Sovereign is one of the most recognizable gold coins still produced today. The modern British Gold Sovereign follows the design principles first established in 1817 when the Royal Mint revived the coin as a circulating currency. Initially introduced during the reign of the Tudor Dynasty, production of the Sovereign ceased in the 17th century before being reintroduced under King George III. Today, this gold coin remains an important part of British numismatic history. Right now, Provident Metals offers 2025 Great Britain Sovereign Gold Coins for purchase.
Highlights:
Each 2025 Great Britain Sovereign Gold Coin available here is offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Coins are shipped individually in plastic flips, while bulk orders of 25 coins are packaged in acrylic tubes for added security.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2025 Great Britain Sovereign, youll find a left-profile portrait of King Charles III. This official design was created by Martin Jennings and was introduced in 2022 after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. In keeping with tradition, the portrait of King Charles III is shown without a crown. The inscriptions include CHARLES III and DEI GRA REX FID DEF.
Reverse
The reverse design of the 2025 Great Britain Sovereign Gold Coin highlights the enduring artistry of Benedetto Pistrucci. His depiction of St. George in combat with a dragon captures motion and detail in a striking way. St. George rides without stirrups, reminiscent of ancient cavalry techniques, while his flowing cape and ornate armor add to the rich visual depth of the design. The level of craftsmanship in this classic image ensures its place among the most recognizable gold coin designs in the world. The inscription reads 2025.
History
The reverse of the Gold Sovereign showcases Benedetto Pistruccis well-known depiction of St. George slaying a dragon. Originally created in 1817, this classic design portrays St. George on horseback in the midst of battle, striking the dragon with a sword. Inspired by Greco-Roman artistic traditions, Pistruccis design has been a lasting symbol of British numismatics for more than two centuries. The fine detailing of the composition, from the flowing cape to the intricate features of the horse, continues to make this an enduring favorite.
