Mexican Libertad bullion coins come from the Mexican Mint, the oldest mint in the Western Hemisphere that is still in operation. The Libertad Series was first introduced in the 1980s with both gold and silver coins, using design elements inspired by the well-known 1921 Gold Centenario. In 2025, the mint reduced the number of Silver Libertads produced and chose not to release any Gold Libertads. This change led to some of the lowest mintages in the history of the series, which may draw added interest from collectors. Right now, 2025 Mexican Libertad 1/10 oz Silver Coins in certified condition are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2025 Mexican Libertad 1/10 oz Silver Coin listed here has a Mint State 70 grade. This means the coin shows full mint shine with no noticeable flaws. The 1/10 oz option in the 2025 series stands out due to its very limited production, with only 200 coins struck.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2025 Mexican Libertad Silver Coin, the modern Mexican coat of arms is shown. It features an eagle perched on a cactus with a serpent held in its beak and claws. The inscriptions here include ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2025 Libertad 1/10 oz Silver Coin displays Winged Victory. First updated in 1996, this image shows her from a three-quarter angle as she stands on the Independence Victory Column in Mexico City. Inscriptions here include 1/10 ONZA, PLATA PURA, 2025 LEY .999, and the Mo mint mark.
History
The Mexican coat of arms is a consistent feature on Libertad coins each year. Its design is based on a well-known Aztec story about the founding of Tenochtitln. According to the legend, the Mexica people were told by their god Huitzilopochtli to settle where they saw an eagle sitting on a cactus while eating a serpent. This moment is believed to have occurred around 1325 CE on an island in Lake Texcoco.
