Mexican Libertad bullion coins are produced by the Mexican Mint, the oldest mint in the Western Hemisphere still in operation. The Libertad Series debuted in the 1980s and includes both gold and silver coins with designs influenced by the famous 1921 Gold Centenario. In 2025, the Mexican Mint reduced the number of Silver Libertads struck and chose not to release any Gold Libertads at all. This led to some of the lowest mintages in the series, including this fractional coin. Today, 2025 Mexican Libertad 1/20 oz Silver Coins in certified condition are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2025 Mexican Libertad 1/20 oz Silver Coin in this listing is sealed in a protective plastic slab and has earned a Mint State 70 grade. This grade indicates a coin with full mint shine and no visible marks. With only 200 coins produced, this is the lowest recorded mintage for the 1/20 oz Silver Libertad, making it a scarce issue within the collection.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2025 Mexican Libertad Silver Coin shows the national coat of arms. In the design, an eagle is perched on a cactus while holding a snake, a symbol rooted in Mexican heritage. Inscriptions include ESTADIOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2025 Libertad 1/20 oz Silver Coin, the image of Winged Victory is featured. Updated in 1996, this version shows Victory in a three-quarter perspective as she stands on the Independence Victory Column. Inscriptions read 1/20 ONZA, PLATA PURA, 2025 LEY .999, and the Mexican Mint’s Mo mint mark.
History
The look of the Mexican Silver Libertad comes from the 1921 Gold Centenario, which marked 100 years of Mexican independence. That original coin introduced the Winged Victory design, inspired by the Independence Victory Column in Mexico City. This same image continues to be used on modern Libertad coins.
