In 2021, the Scottsdale Mint launched a new line of gold and silver coins for Gibraltar. Each year, Lady Justice appears on the obverse with a backdrop of rolling hills. While the main elements stay the same, the background design gets a small update with each release. For 2025, the series moves to Niue and brings the Niuean coat of arms to the reverse side. Right now, 2025 Niue Lady Justice 1 oz Gold Coins are available online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2025 Niue Lady Justice 1 oz Gold Coin comes packaged in its own capsule. For 2025, the series moves away from Gibraltar for the first time, with Niue now serving as the issuing nation and its coat of arms featured on the reverse. All other design details remain the same.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2025 Niue Lady Justice Gold Coin shows Lady Justice in front-facing relief. She wears a blindfold, carries a sword in her right hand, and holds balanced scales in her left hand. The inscriptions here include JUSTICE, FIDES ET JUSTITIA, and 2025.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2025 Lady Justice 1 oz Gold Coin features the Niuean coat of arms, or Public Seal of Niue. It includes native plants surrounded by a ring of seashells, with the Sovereign crown above, reflecting Niues connection to the Commonwealth. Inscriptions here include NIUE, 1 OZ 9999 FINE GOLD, 2025, and NIUE 250 DOLLARS.
History
Lady Justice comes from ancient mythology, first appearing as the Greek goddess Themis, a symbol of law and order, and later Dike, the goddess of human justice. The Romans adopted this figure as Justitia, shaping the image we still use today. These figures represented the belief that justice was a universal principle guiding both gods and people.
