The HMS Bounty began its journey as a small merchant vessel acquired by the Royal Navy in 1787 for a specific mission: to collect breadfruit plants in Tahiti and deliver them to the West Indies. Under the leadership of Lieutenant William Bligh, the ship was refitted for its cargo and set sail from England in December 1787 with a crew of 46. While it started as an ordinary ship, the HMS Bountys story became one of the most famous in maritime history. Today, 2025 Pitcairn Islands Bounty 1/2 oz Silver Coins are available online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The 2025 Pitcairn Islands Bounty 1/2 oz Silver Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Each coin is individually packaged in a protective plastic flip, offering collectors a beautifully preserved addition to their portfolio. These coins represent the smallest silver BU option in the Bounty Series.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2025 Pitcairn Islands Bounty Silver Coin is a left-profile portrait of King Charles III, created by artist Jody Clark. This design marks the Kings first official coin portrait, showcasing a regal yet modern depiction of His Majesty without a crown. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, PITCAIRN ISLANDS, FIFTY CENTS, and 2025.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2025 Bounty 1/2 oz Silver Coin features the HMS Bounty, a ship originally known as Bethia before its acquisition by the Royal Navy. Measuring just 91 feet, the Bounty is an excellent representation of the small merchant ships of the 18th century and is forever tied to its fascinating history. Inscriptions here include HMS BOUNTY and .999 AG 1/2 OZ.
History
The HMS Bountys historic journey is marked by the mutiny that erupted near the Friendly Islands. The growing tensions between the crew and Lieutenant Bligh culminated in rebellion led by Fletcher Christian. Unusual for the time, Bligh and his loyal crew members were not executed but were instead set adrift in a small launch, a testament to both the mutineers determination and their sense of mercy.
