Obverse
The obverse of the 2025 Pitcairn Islands Ocean Wonders Turtle Silver Coin shows the official effigy of King Charles III. This left-profile portrait, created by Glyn Davies, presents the King without a crown. The inscriptions read CHARLES III, PITCAIRN ISLANDS, ONE DOLLAR, and 2025.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2025 Ocean Wonders Turtle 1 oz Silver Coin features a sea turtle moving through ocean waters. Sea turtles are important figures in South Pacific traditions. Many island communities view them as spiritual creatures, connecting them to stories of creation and heritage. In Polynesian beliefs, the turtle symbolizes guidance, peace, and a long life.
History
Sea turtles living in the South Pacific are known for their long migratory patterns. These animals often swim thousands of kilometers between their feeding grounds and nesting areas, typically returning to the same beach where they were born. With the help of satellite tracking, researchers have followed turtles traveling more than 2,000 kilometers between islands like the Cook Islands and French Polynesia.
