This portrait was created by Dan Thorne for Perth Mint and depicts the King in left-profile relief without a crown. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, and 8 DOLLARS.

Reverse

The reverse side of 2025 Proof Koala 5 oz Silver Coins shows a koala perched on a eucalyptus branch in a design from Aleysha Howarth. Koala populations across Australia show slight differences in size and appearance depending on the region. Northern Queensland koalas are usually smaller and paler, Victorian koalas are bigger with darker fur, while those in New South Wales share features of both. The inscriptions read KOALA, 2025, 5 OZ 9999 SILVER, and the P mint mark.

History

Koalas thrive in eucalyptus forests and woodland areas, where they rely heavily on eucalyptus leaves for their food supply. These marsupials live in habitats ranging from Queensland down through New South Wales, Victoria, and into South Australia.
