Obverse

The obverse of the 2025 Proof Australian Perth Mint Sovereign Coin shows King Charles III in a left-profile view. In this portrait, he is not wearing a crown. This is the official first-generation depiction of the King used on Australian coins and was created by artist Dan Thorne. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, and 25 DOLLARS.

Reverse

On the reverse side of the 2025 Proof Perth Mint Sovereign Gold Coin, youll see a modern version of St. George fighting a dragon, based on Benedetto Pistruccis classic design and brought to life by Jennifer McKenna. St. George, who lived during the 3rd century AD, was a Roman soldier of Greek descent. He became one of the most honored Christian saints after being martyred around 303 AD during Roman Emperor Diocletians rule. He is remembered across the world, with April 23rd set aside as his feast day. Inscriptions here include AUSTRALIA, 2025, and the P mint mark.

History

From 1899 through 1931, more than 106 million gold sovereigns were produced by the Perth Mint. These coins bore the P mintmark and were made from locally refined Western Australian gold, making them some of the highest-quality sovereigns of their time. They played a major role in trade and global currency systems.
