Chinese dragons are known for their wisdom, strength, and good fortune, standing in contrast to the more fearsome dragons in Western myths. Rather than destroyers, these dragons are symbols of balance and power in nature. Since 2018, the Perth Mint has released the Australian Rectangular Dragon Series in both BU and proof finishes. Today, 2025 Proof Australian Rectangular Dragon 1 oz Silver Coins are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
These 2025 Proof Australian Rectangular Dragon 1 oz Silver Coins ship in clear window boxes. Each coin also comes in a themed outer shipper and includes an official Certificate of Authenticity from the Perth Mint.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2025 Proof Australian Rectangular Dragon Silver Coin features King Charles III. This left-profile portrait was created by Dan Thorne and shows the King without a crown. It is the first official effigy of His Majesty to appear on Perth Mint coins. Inscriptions include CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, 1 DOLLAR, and 1 OZ 9999 AG.
Reverse
On the reverse, the 2025 Proof Rectangular Dragon 1 oz Silver Coin shows a detailed image of a traditional Chinese dragon. The creature is shown in a front-facing pose with a long, scaled body, clawed feet, antler-like horns, and no wings. Designed by Lucas Bowers, the dragon appears among clouds, hinting at its control over rain and wind. Inscriptions read 2025 and the P mint mark.
History
In Chinese art, dragons often include details that signal status. One such feature is the number of claws. A dragon with five claws was once reserved only for the emperor, while those with four were for nobles, and three-clawed dragons were used in everyday designs.
