History

As tensions rose in Massachusetts, riders such as Paul Revere spread the word that British troops were on the move. Local militia members quickly assembled. At dawn, British forces encountered a small group of colonists on Lexington Green, and after a tense moment, gunfire broke out. This first clash claimed the lives of eight colonists and marked the start of open rebellion.
