The samurai originated in Japan during the Heian period (794-1185 CE), serving as warriors under regional lords. Over time, they gained political power, particularly during the Kamakura shogunate. These skilled fighters followed bushido, or “the way of the warrior,” a strict code that emphasized loyalty, discipline, and combat expertise. The samurai are known as some of the most formidable warriors in history. Now, Provident Metals offers the 2025 Proof Cook Islands Samurai 5 oz Silver Coin for collectors.
Highlights:
Each 2025 Proof Cook Islands Samurai 5 oz Silver Coin arrives in a presentation window box. The box features a dramatic scene with flames surrounding a Japanese castle. These proof coins showcase frosted designs, mirrored backgrounds, and an ultra high-relief strike that enhances the depth of the imagery.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2025 Proof Cook Islands Samurai Silver Coin features a left-profile bust of King Charles III. This portrait, created by Dan Thorne, presents the monarch without a crown. The inscriptions include 25 DOLLARS, CHARLES III, 2025, and COOK ISLANDS.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2025 Proof Samurai 5 oz Silver Coin, a fully armored samurai warrior is shown in a commanding stance. When the Tokugawa shogunate (1603-1868) took control, the samurais role evolved as the country entered a long period of peace. Instead of engaging in constant warfare, samurai transitioned into administrative roles and became patrons of the arts, including poetry, calligraphy, and tea ceremonies. However, this era ended with the Meiji Restoration in 1868, which abolished the samurai class and outlawed the carrying of swords. The lone inscription reads SAMURAI.
History
The samurais appearancemarked by their signature katana and wakizashi swords, ornate armor, and family insigniasbecame an enduring symbol of Japanese warfare. During the intense conflicts of the Sengoku period (1467-1603), samurai honed their combat abilities, utilizing archery, swordsmanship, and later, firearms introduced by European traders.
