First issued in 1982 by the Mexican Mint, the Silver Libertad series started with a 1 oz silver BU coin. A proof version followed in 1983, and by 1986, annual Proof Silver Libertads were being released. Over time, the series expanded to include a range of sizes beyond the original 1 oz. Today, 2025 Proof Mexican Libertad 1/2 oz Silver Coins in perfect condition are available from Provident Metals.

Obverse
On the obverse of the 2025 Proof Mexican Libertad Silver Coin, youll see the modern Mexican coat of arms. This design shows a golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus while holding a serpent. Larger coins, such as the 1 oz, 2 oz, and 5 oz versions, include 10 smaller historic versions of the emblem around the main design. Fractional coins like the 1/2 oz version feature only the modern emblem. The inscriptions here read ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2025 Proof Libertad 1/2 oz Silver Coin presents the Winged Victory statue from Mexico Citys Independence Victory Column. Behind the statue, the volcanoes Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl add depth to the scene. Inscriptions here read 1/2 ONZA, PLATA PURA, 2025 LEY .999, and the mint mark.
History
The 2025 release of the Mexican Libertad series brings extremely low mintages across multiple versions, along with the absence of any 2025 Gold Libertads. The 2025 1/2 oz Proof Silver Libertad sets a new record low with just 200 coins struck, surpassing the previous low of 600 coins in 1999.
