The obverse of the 2025 Proof NATB Massachusetts Silver Coin shows Wampanoag tribal members sharing a meal with the Plymouth settlers. The event often called the First Thanksgiving was actually a three-day meeting that served diplomatic purposes as much as it did a harvest celebration. The Wampanoag contributed much of the food and far outnumbered the roughly fifty surviving colonists. The inscriptions include WOPANAAK, MASSACHUSETTS, 2025, and WOMPANOAG.
Reverse
On the reverse of 2025 Proof NATB Massachusetts 1 oz Silver Coins, youll find the standard series design. It features the head of an American bald eagle at the center of an eight-pointed star, with arrowheads placed between each of the stars points. The inscriptions read NATIVE AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL, MESA GRANDE SOVEREIGN NATION, 1 OUNCE, ONE DOLLAR, and 999 AG.
History
The Wampanoag people are Indigenous to what is now southeastern Massachusetts and parts of eastern Rhode Island, including Cape Cod, Marthas Vineyard, and Nantucket. Their name means People of the First Light or People of the Dawn, a reflection of their eastern location along the Atlantic coast where the sunrise first appears.
