Obverse
The obverse of the 2025 Proof Republic of Ghana James the son of Zebedee Silver Coin shows King Charles III in a left-profile portrait. This design comes from artist Jody Clark, who also created the final portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Charles is shown without a crown. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, REPUBLIC OF GHANA, 5 CEDIS, 2025, and 1 OZ .999 SILVER.
Reverse
On the reverse of 2025 Proof James the son of Zebedee 1 oz Silver Coins is an image of James just before his execution. Though Judas was the first apostle to die, James was the first to be martyred. His death came by sword, ordered by King Herod. The inscriptions read JAMES SONE OF ZEBEDEE.
History
James, son of Zebedee, was one of the key members of Jesuss group of disciples. He was part of a core trio that included his brother John and Simon Peter. Sometimes called James the Greater, he was a Galilean fisherman before he became a disciple. Jesus referred to him and his brother as Boanerges, or Sons of Thunder, possibly because of their strong personalities or passionate preaching.
