Reverse
The reverse of the 2025 Reverse Proof King Penguin 1 oz Silver Coin features a detailed depiction of King Penguins in an icy landscape. A large King Penguin is positioned in the foreground, with four more penguins in the background, including an adult tending to its chick on the right. The Falkland Islands are home to approximately 1,500 breeding pairs, with most found at Volunteer Point on East Falkland. Inscriptions read FALKLAND ISLANDS and KING PENGUIN.
History
King Penguins thrive in sub-Antarctic regions, forming large colonies on islands where cold Antarctic currents meet milder sub-Antarctic waters. The largest breeding groups are found on South Georgia, the Crozet Islands, the Prince Edward Islands, and the Kerguelen Islands. These colonies can number in the thousands, with some reaching hundreds of thousands of breeding pairs.
