The Morgan Silver Dollar was first released in 1878 after the Bland-Allison Act required the U.S. Treasury to buy large amounts of silver and strike it into dollar coins. Designed by George T. Morgan, the coin became one of the best-known designs in U.S. coinage. The series ended in 1921, but in 2021 the U.S. Mint marked the 100th anniversary of that final release by reissuing the Morgan Dollar as a modern silver coin. Obverse

Reverse
The reverse design of the 2025-S Proof Morgan Dollar Silver Coin displays the heraldic eagle with outstretched wings. The eagle holds arrows of war and an olive branch of peace in its talons, symbolizing Americas strength and diplomacy. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR, and the S mint mark.
History
Originally minted from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921, the Morgan Silver Dollar remains one of Americas most recognizable coins. George T. Morgan designed the coin following the Bland-Allison Act, which instructed the Treasury to use large quantities of silver from Western mines for coinage. The act was intended to expand the money supply and provide economic relief for silver-producing states and farmers.
