The history of the United States Navy dates back to October 13, 1775, when the Continental Congress approved the creation of a small naval force during the Revolutionary War. This early fleet was formed from converted merchant ships to disrupt British supply routes and challenge their naval dominance along the American coast. In honor of 250 years of service in October 2025, the United States Mint pays tribute with a Proof Silver Eagle featuring a US Navy privy mark. Today, 2025-S Proof Navy Privy American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins are available in certified condition at Provident Metals.

History
Through the Cold War era, the Navy was central to Americas containment and deterrence strategy against the Soviet Union. Its carrier groups displayed global reach and ensured open navigation routes, while missile submarines maintained a secure nuclear response capability. The Navy supported operations in Korea and Vietnam, engaged in tense encounters across the world, and used emerging technologies like nuclear propulsion, radar, and guided missiles to transform its fleet and strategy.
