The US Mint first released the Gold Eagle series in 1986, offering a mix of bullion and proof options. While the 1 oz Proof Gold Eagle was introduced in the same year, fractional-ounce proof versions followed in 1987 and 1988. Among them, the 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagle has often been one of the lowest-minted coins, making it a sought-after addition to any collection.
