Obverse
Adolph A. Weinmans timeless Walking Liberty design graces the obverse of the 2025-W Proof American Eagle Silver Coin. Liberty steps toward the sunrise, draped in the American flag, with oak and laurel branches held in her arm to symbolize strength and achievement. The inscriptions here read LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, 2025, and the AW signature mark.
Reverse
The reverse of 2025-W Proof Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins features Emily Damstras bald eagle in flight, a design introduced in 2021. The eagle is shown descending with its wings outstretched, clutching an oak branch in its talons, symbolizing the nations resilience and natural beauty. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, 1 OZ FINE SILVER, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the W mint mark.
History
American coin designs have long featured different interpretations of the bald eagle. One of the most notable precursors to Emily Damstra’s current eagle design was Christian Gobrecht’s Flying Eagle, introduced on pattern cents in 1856 and circulated cents from 1857-1858. This naturalistic design departed from traditional heraldry and paved the way for modern depictions of the eagle.
