The American Gold Eagle celebrates 40 years in 2026. Since its first release in 1986, this series has been the main gold bullion coin program from the United States Mint. Gold Eagles are offered in four weights, including a 1 oz coin and three fractional sizes. The 1/10 oz piece remains the most popular of the fractional options for those who want a smaller gold coin. Obverse
The obverse of the 2026 American Eagle Gold Coin showcases Lady Liberty in the classic artwork by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Originally introduced in 1907, this design shows Liberty standing tall and walking forward toward the viewer. She carries a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The U.S. Capitol building appears in the distance behind her, with sun rays rising upward and stars set around the border. The inscriptions here include LIBERTY and 2026.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2026 Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coins features the newer bald eagle design from Jennie Norris. This portrait was added to the series in 2021 during the 35th-anniversary update. It presents a close-up view of the eagles head in left-profile relief, emphasizing crisp texture and natural detail. The inscriptions here read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 5 DOLLARS, and 1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD.
History
The 1/10 oz Gold Eagle may be the smallest coin in the lineup, but it still offers the same familiar imagery that defines the program. Buyers get the Saint-Gaudens Liberty on the obverse and the modern eagle on the reverse, just in a size thats easier to fit into many budgets. This denomination has long been a practical way to buy gold in smaller steps while still choosing a trusted US Mint product.
