Obverse
On the obverse of the 2026 American Eagle Gold Coin is Augustus Saint-Gaudens well-known Liberty figure from 1907. The full-length design shows Liberty walking forward, a torch raised in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, an image originally created for the historic $20 Double Eagle. The inscriptions here include LIBERTY and 2026.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2026 Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coin displays the current bald eagle design from artist Jennie Norris. First used on the Gold Eagle in 2021, this detailed left-profile portrait of the eagles head offers a bold, realistic look at the national symbol. Inscriptions here include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 10 DOLLARS, and 1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD.
History
Among fractional Gold Eagles, the 1/4 oz option can be easy to miss, even though it fits nicely between the smaller and larger pieces. The 1/10 oz coin usually draws the most attention and has recorded the highest yearly mintage in the entire series. While the 1/2 oz Eagle is the biggest fractional choice, demand for the 1/4 oz and 1/2 oz coins often ends up very similar by the time mintages are finalized.
