The American Gold Eagle bullion series celebrates 40 years in 2026. The United States Mint launched the American Eagle gold program in 1986, offering four weight options for buyers who wanted a trusted way to hold gold. These coins are made in 22-karat gold, a distinctive alloy thats 91.67% gold with copper and silver added for strength and long-term wear resistance. Every 2026 American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin listed here is graded Mint State 69. Coins at this level show bright, original mint luster and a very clean surface, with no more than two tiny flaws. These minor marks are typically light contact points or hairlines located outside of the key design areas. The Early Release label reflects that the coins were submitted to NGC within 30 days of their official release.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2026 American Eagle Gold Coin is the classic Lady Liberty design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Liberty is pictured walking forward, holding a torch for enlightenment and an olive branch for peace. Stars line the outer rim, and sunrays create a strong backdrop behind her figure. Inscriptions include LIBERTY and 2026.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2026 Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin presents the current bald eagle portrait introduced in 2020. Designed by Jennie Norris, it shows a detailed left-profile view of the eagles head, giving the coin a crisp, modern finish. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 50 DOLLARS, and 1 OZ. FINE GOLD.
History
The 1 oz American Gold Eagle began in 1986 after the passage of the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985. This act authorized the Mint to issue gold bullion coins again for the first time in decades. Each coin contains one troy ounce of 22-karat gold alloyed with small amounts of silver and copper, which help reduce scratching and protect the look of the finish. Though the coin carries a $50 face value, its selling price is determined by the gold spot price and an added premium.

In order to receive free shipping on purchases of $199 or more, you must live within the 50 US states. For orders less than $199, a $9.95 shipping fee applies. All orders of $199 or more that are eligible for free shipping are, by default, shipped via a carrier of our choice (USPS or UPS). Depending on the contents and size of your purchase, you may be able to upgrade to a specific carrier during checkout.
For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
