Obverse
The obverse of the 2026 American Eagle Gold Coin displays the renowned Lady Liberty design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Liberty walks forward toward the viewer with a torch raised in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Stars create a border around her, while rays of sunlight fill the field behind, adding depth to the scene. The inscriptions include LIBERTY and 2026.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2026 Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin presents the current bald eagle profile. Designed by Jennie Norris in 2020 and adopted for the series in 2021, the image shows the eagles head in left-profile relief with clean lines and a realistic finish. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 50 DOLLARS, and 1 OZ. FINE GOLD.
History
At the heart of every Gold Eagle is Saint-Gaudens Liberty, first seen on the historic Double Eagle coins from 1907 to 1933 and often viewed as one of the finest designs the U.S. Mint has produced. The former reverse by sculptor Miley Busiek, used from 1986 through 2021, featured a family of eagles symbolizing shared values and national strength before being replaced by todays updated portrait.
