The Australian Gold Kangaroo Series from the Perth Mint began in 1986 under the name Australian Gold Nugget. The program changed in 1990 to feature the countrys famous kangaroo, and each year since has brought a new design of this well-known marsupial. For 2026, the series celebrates 40 years with a special anniversary privy mark. Right now, 2026 Australian Kangaroo 1/10 oz Gold Coins are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2026 Australian Kangaroo 1/10 oz Gold Coin available here is housed in a protective capsule and offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Fractional gold coins in this series are the only ones with set mintages, and the 1/10 oz version has the highest at 200,000 pieces.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2026 Australian Kangaroo Gold Coin shows a left-profile portrait of King Charles III created by Dan Thorne. The design presents His Majesty without a crown and marks the first standard portrait of the King on Australian coins. The inscriptions here include CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, and 15 DOLLARS.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2026 Kangaroo 1/10 oz Gold Coin depicts two kangaroos hopping through a shallow pool, sending ripples across the surface. This design captures the kangaroos signature movement, refined through many generations. Inscriptions here include 2026, 1/10 OZ 9999 GOLD, KANGAROO, and the 40th anniversary privy.
History
Kangaroos are vital to Australias environment as grazers and as prey animals. Their feeding habits help shape plant growth and spread seeds throughout the landscape. They also serve as a food source for predators like dingoes and, in the past, thylacines. Their efficient digestion and low water needs help them thrive in Australias dry conditions.
