In 1990, the design focus shifted to the kangaroo, which quickly became an iconic part of the collection. Every year since, the reverse design has changed, giving the series a sense of creativity and variety. The 2026 release celebrates the 40th anniversary of this long-running series and includes a unique anniversary privy mark. Each 2026 Australian Kangaroo 1/2 oz Gold Coin arrives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and is individually packaged in a protective capsule. The 1/2 oz coin has a limited mintage of just 100,000 coins for 2026.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2026 Australian Kangaroo Gold Coin features King Charles III in left-profile relief. This uncrowned effigy was designed by Dan Thorne and serves as the first official portrait of Charles III for use on Australian coinage. Inscriptions include CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, and 50 DOLLARS.

Reverse

On the reverse of the 2026 Kangaroo 1/2 oz Gold Coin, two kangaroos are shown hopping through shallow water, creating ripples around their feet. The design captures the graceful movement of these animals, whose powerful leaps allow them to travel efficiently across Australias open landscapes. Inscriptions read 2026, 1/2 OZ 9999 GOLD, KANGAROO, and the 40th anniversary privy.

History
