The Perth Mints Lunar Series III continues into 2026 with a coin celebrating the Year of the Horse. This issue highlights the Year of the Fire Horse, one of the five elemental variations that cycle through with each animal in the Chinese zodiac. As the seventh animal in the 12-year rotation, the horse has held symbolic meaning for centuries. Provident Metals now offers 2026 Australian Lunar Horse 1/2 oz Silver Coins online.
Highlights:
Each 2026 Australian Lunar Horse 1/2 oz Silver Coin is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Coins are individually packaged in capsules, with sets of 20 in sealed rolls and boxes of 100 holding five rolls. A security element is included on the reverse, viewable only under magnification.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2026 Australian Lunar Horse Silver Coin, youll see the first official Australian coin portrait of King Charles III. Designed by Dan Thorne, the left-profile image shows His Majesty without a crown, marking a new chapter in the nations coinage. The inscriptions here read CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, 1/2 OZ 9999 AG, and 50 CENTS.
Reverse
The reverse features a dynamic design of a mother horse and her foal galloping across green fields, with mountain peaks in the distance. This artwork was created by Ing Ing Jong, an artist whose lunar-themed designs have appeared in the Perth Mints series for more than a decade. Inscriptions here read HORSE, 2026, the P mint mark, and the Chinese emblem for Horse.
History
The Year of the Horse is the seventh sign in the traditional Chinese zodiac. A well-known legend tells of a race across a river to decide the order of the animals. The Horse, known for its speed and strength, placed seventh after being surprised by the Snake, which had hidden in its hoof and startled it near the end.
