In 2026, the Perth Mint will move its Lunar Series III program forward with the introduction of its Year of the Horse coins. Within the Chinese Zodiac, the horse is the seventh sign in the 12-year rotation, and the 2026 release highlights the Fire Horse year. Each animal returns in five elemental versions across the larger zodiac sequence, with each type linked to one of the five elements. Today, 2026 Australian Lunar Horse 1 Kilo Silver Coins are available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
All 2026 Australian Lunar Horse 1 Kilo Silver Coins available here come individually packaged by the Perth Mint. Each piece arrives in a classic black display case with a clear acrylic lid and is stored in a Lunar Horse-themed shipper. A Certificate of Authenticity is included. The reverse features colorized imagery and a 24-karat gold privy.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2026 Australian Lunar Horse Silver Coin is a left-facing image of King Charles III. This uncrowned portrait, created by Dan Thorne, marks the first official coinage effigy of Charles III used on Australian currency. The inscriptions here include CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, 1 KILO 9999 AG, and 30 DOLLARS.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2026 Lunar Horse 1 Kilo Silver Coin depicts a mare striding across open grasslands with her foal close behind, all set against a distant mountain backdrop. This artwork is by Ing Ing Jong, who has contributed several designs to the Perth Mints lunar series over the years. Inscriptions here include HORSE, 2026, the privy mark, and the P mint mark.
History
The Fire Horse year appears only once within the zodiacs 60-year cycle, combining the Horse sign with the Fire element. This combination is rooted in early Chinese cosmological ideas, where the active yang nature of the Horse becomes even more energetic when paired with Fire.
