The Britannia bullion series was first released by The Royal Mint in 1987. It is one of the mints two main annual bullion programs, along with the Gold Sovereign. The inaugural release featured the Gold Britannia in several weight options. Provident Metals now offers 2026 British Britannia 1 oz Gold Tubes for collectors and investors.
Highlights:
Each 2026 British Britannia 1 oz Gold Tube is packaged in an acrylic tube that secures 10 coins, for a total of 10 Troy ounces of 24-karat gold. Modern security additions on the reverse include motion texture wave lines, a latent security image, tincture lines on the Union Jack, and micro-text surrounding Britannia.
Obverse
The obverse design of the 2026 British Britannia Gold Coin displays King Charles III. This official portrait by Martin Jennings was introduced in 2022 and shows the monarch in left-profile relief without a crown. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, DG REX FD, and 100 POUNDS.
Reverse
The reverse artwork on 2026 Britannia 1 oz Gold Coins depicts Britannia, a design by Philip Nathan introduced in 1987. She is shown standing on a coastal outcrop, holding a trident in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, with a Union Jack shield and Corinthian helmet completing her appearance. The inscriptions read BRITANNIA, 2026, 1 OZ, and 999.9 FINE GOLD.
History
Britannia has served as a lasting symbol of Britain for centuries, appearing in coins, paintings, and literature as the nations personification. She became especially prominent during the peak of the British Empire, when the song Rule, Britannia! gained popularity as an unofficial anthem. Today, her image continues to represent the values and heritage of the United Kingdom.
