The Royal Mint is the official mint of the United Kingdom and has a history that stretches back more than 1,100 years. It is widely recognized for producing gold and silver bullion coins that are popular with investors and collectors worldwide. Beyond its standard bullion releases, The Royal Mint also issues limited-edition commemorative series that focus on important historical events, wildlife themes, anniversaries, and cultural legends. One of its newest collections is the Legendary Creatures Series, which begins with a design honoring one of Scotlands most famous mythical figures: the Loch Ness Monster. Right now, 2026 British Loch Ness Monster 1 oz Silver Coins are available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
All 2026 British Loch Ness Monster 1 oz Silver Coins are offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Individual coins are shipped in protective flips, while multiples are packaged in tubes of 25 coins. Larger orders are delivered in Monster Boxes holding 500 total coins, with 20 tubes per box.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2026 British Loch Ness Monster Silver Coin is the official effigy of King Charles III. His Majesty is shown in left-profile relief in a design created by Martin Jennings. Introduced in 2022, this portrait is the first official coinage depiction of Charles III and presents him without a crown for a clean, modern look. The inscriptions here read CHARLES III, DG REX FD, and 2 POUNDS.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2026 Loch Ness Monster 1 oz Silver Coin features an image of the legendary creature rising from the waters of Loch Ness. In popular culture, Nessie is often described as a large animal with a long neck and small head, resembling a plesiosaur. The design also reflects the dramatic setting of Loch Ness itself, which is more than 23 miles long and nearly a mile wide in places. With depths reaching over 750 feet, the loch has long been seen as the perfect location for mysterious stories and unexplained sightings. Inscriptions here read LOCH NESS MONSTER, 1 OZ, 999, FINE SILVER, and 2026.
History
The legend of the Loch Ness Monster has been discussed for centuries, with some of the earliest references dating back more than fourteen hundred years. One of the first written accounts comes from the year 565 AD, when Saint Columba was said to have encountered a mysterious creature in the River Ness. Interest in the story remained limited for a long period, but attention returned in the early 1930s when new roads along Loch Ness brought more visitors to the region. After a 1933 report published in the Inverness Courier, sightings became more frequent and sparked widespread interest. Since then, the loch has been the subject of many investigations, including sonar research in the 1970s and 1980s and a 2018 environmental DNA study. That more recent study found large amounts of eel DNA in the water, supporting the idea that some sightings may have been caused by unusually large European eels.
