The British Lion and Eagle Series from The Royal Mint brings together classic imagery and careful craftsmanship. First released in 2024, the series has provided gold and silver bullion options designed for both collecting and long-term holding. The 2026 edition marks an important update, as it introduces the first newly designed Lion and Eagle artwork since the program began. Right now, 2026 British The Lion and The Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coins are available online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
These 2026 British The Lion and The Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Each coin contains 1/4 troy oz of .9999 fine gold and ships in protective flips or plastic tubes of 25 coins.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2026 British The Lion and The Eagle Gold Coins shows the official effigy of King Charles III. Created by sculptor Martin Jennings, the portrait presents the King in left-profile relief without a crown. Introduced in late 2022, this design represents the first portrait of King Charles III to appear on British coinage. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, D.G. REX F.D., and 25 POUNDS.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2026 The Lion and The Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coin features a striking composition of two powerful animals. A lion is shown standing confidently along a coastal landscape, while a bald eagle flies overhead. The scene highlights strength, stability, and balance through its detailed engraving. The inscriptions read THE LION AND THE EAGLE, 2026, and 1/4 OZ FINE GOLD 999.9.
History
The bald eagle was officially adopted as the national bird of the United States in 1782. Native exclusively to North America, the bird was admired for its size, sharp vision, and commanding flight. Its white head and strong build came to symbolize freedom and independence. Although Benjamin Franklin preferred the turkey, the bald eagle ultimately represented the spirit of a growing nation.
