The Royal Mint launched the Tudor Beasts Series in 2022 as the successor to the Queens Beasts Series. With ten different designs, the series draws inspiration from the heraldic statues that line the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court. These creatures were used by the Tudor monarchs, particularly King Henry VIII, to promote the strength and legitimacy of their reign following the Wars of the Roses. Now, 2026 British Tudor Beasts Queen’s Lion 1/4 oz Gold Coins are available at Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives in protective flips, plastic tubes of 25 coins, or Monster Boxes of 500 coins!
  • 8th BU design in the Tudor Beasts Series!
  • Contains 1/4 troy oz of .9999 pure gold in BU condition.
  • Bears a face value of 25 Pound sterling (GBP) backed by the government of Britain.
  • Obverse features King Charles III.
  • Reverse depicts the Queens Lion with Jane Seymours badge.

Each 2026 British Tudor Beasts Queen’s Lion 1/4 oz Gold Coin is offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Single coins are packaged in protective flips, while multiples are housed in plastic tubes of 25 or Monster Boxes of 500.

Obverse

For the obverse of the 2026 British Tudor Beasts Queen’s Lion Gold Coins, the design shows the first official portrait of King Charles III. Created by Martin Jennings in 2022, it depicts the king in left-profile relief without a crown. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, DG REX FD, and 25 POUNDS.

Reverse

The reverse of 2026 Tudor Beasts Queen’s Lion 1/4 oz Gold Coins features the Queens Lion linked to Jane Seymour. This crowned lion was introduced by Henry VIII to symbolize her elevated status, with the design showing the lion carrying her personal badge. The inscriptions read THE QUEEN’S LION, 1/4 OZ, FINE GOLD, 999.9, and 2026.

History

King Henry VIII relied on heraldic symbols to reinforce his marriage to Jane Seymour and honor her role as queen. Jane Seymours badge displayed a golden phoenix rising from flames beside a hawthorn tree, often placed within or near a castle gateway. This emblem carried layers of meaning connected to her position as queen consort.
