The Tudor Beasts Series from The Royal Mint is the next chapter following the Queens Beasts Series. Starting in 2022, this set includes 10 designs inspired by heraldic statues on the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace. Each creature symbolizes the authority and heritage the Tudor monarchs used to strengthen their claim to the throne after the Wars of the Roses. Right now, the 2026 British Tudor Beasts Queen’s Lion 2 oz Silver Coin is available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2026 British Tudor Beasts Queen’s Lion 2 oz Silver Coin arrives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Individual coins come in plastic flips, while groups of 10 ship in acrylic tubes, and groups of 200 arrive in boxes.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2026 British Tudor Beasts Queen’s Lion Silver Coin features King Charles III. This first official portrait, designed by Martin Jennings in late 2022, shows the king in left-profile relief without a crown. Inscriptions include CHARLES III, DG REX FD, and 5 POUNDS.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2026 Tudor Beasts Queen’s Lion 2 oz Silver Coin, the focus is on the Queens Lion and the badge of Jane Seymour. Henry VIII used this heraldic symbol to support her image as queen consort. Inscriptions read QUEEN’S LION, 2 OZ, FINE SILVER, 999.9, and 2026.
History
The Queens Lion is linked to Jane Seymour, King Henry VIIIs third wife. As Jane did not come from a strong royal background, Henry VIII relied on heraldry to raise her standing. Using a “coat of augmentation,” he introduced symbols that elevated her status and reinforced her role as queen.
