Obverse

The obverse of the 2026 Colorized American Independence Edition Eagle Silver Coin displays a detailed, colorized image of delegates gathered at a table to review and sign the Declaration of Independence. On August 2, 1776, many members of Congress assembled at what is now called Independence Hall to sign the document. Though it had been approved on July 4, this signing helped formalize the colonies separation from Great Britain. Thomas Jefferson was the primary author, shaping the documents message around freedom and individual rights. Inscriptions include LIBERTY, PHILADELPHIA 1776, and 2026.

Reverse

On the reverse of the 2026 Colorized Independence Edition Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin, the American bald eagle is shown. This design by Emily Damstra was first introduced in 2021 as part of an updated look for the American Eagle Series during its 35th anniversary. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, and 1 OZ. FINE SILVER.

History

Philadelphia was a major center of activity during the American Revolution and is widely known as the place where the United States began to take shape. As one of the largest and most active cities in the colonies, it hosted important gatherings of leaders. The First and Second Continental Congresses both met in Philadelphia, where key decisions were made about independence and governance.
