The Czech Mint began its bullion program in 2017 with the debut of the Silver Czech Lion, a series recognized for its national imagery and controlled mintages. Struck by the Czech Mint and issued as legal tender by Niue, each coin in the collection offers a new look at the Czech lion on the reverse. This symbol has long represented the heritage of the Czech Republic. Today, 2026 Niue Czech Lion 1 oz Gold Coins are available from Provident Metals.

  • Comes with an individual protective flip!
  • 10th coin in the Niue Czech Lion Series!
  • Unique reverse design for 2026!
  • Limited mintage of only 1,500 coins!
  • Contains 1 troy oz of .9999 pure gold in BU condition.
  • The face value of $50 (NZD) is backed by the Niuean government.

Each 2026 Niue Czech Lion 1 oz Gold Coin offered here comes in a protective flip and is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. This release represents the 10th coin in the series and introduces a fresh reverse design featuring the Czech Lion and the Crown of St. Wenceslas.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 2026 Niue Czech Lion Gold Coin is a left-profile portrait of King Charles III. As Niue is part of the Commonwealth, its coinage features the current British monarch. This effigy was created by Jody Clark, who is also known for designing the final portrait of Queen Elizabeth II used on British coins. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, NIUE, 50 DOLLARS, and 2026.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2026 Czech Lion 1 oz Gold Coin displays the Czech lion with its recognizable forked tail alongside the Crown of St. Wenceslas. This crown was created in 1346 by Charles IV for his coronation as King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor. It was dedicated to St. Wenceslas and established as the official crown used for future coronations. The inscriptions read CESKA REPUBLIKA, 1 OZ, and AU 999.9.

History

The Czech lion traces its origins to the 1100s when Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa awarded heraldic arms to King Vladislaus II. The original image showed a single-tailed silver lion on a red field, representing bravery and strength. Over time, a second tail was added, traditionally linked to King Pemysl Otakar I and his support in regional conflicts. By the 13th century, the two-tailed lion became the official symbol of Bohemia and has remained an important part of Czech identity.
